Two games in a row that have more resembled World War One trench warfare than anything else, but it was a nil-one away victory ground out in a period of exhausting fixture congestion and the reward of the plum match of the next round. Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur is the stuff FA Cup mega-matches are made of.

Robbie Keane was the man, playing unselfishly and setting up his team mates, whilst also nabbing the opportunistic match winner with 15 minutes gone.

Pre match: The strange thing is that the FA Cup was almost an afterthought for Spurs with our big Carling Cup semifinal second leg with Arse coming up, and equally our vaunted progress into the knockout stage of the UEFA Cup. Add that to the fact we must go to Old Trafford if we beat Reading in this replay, plus the fixture congestion, and it all adds up to a game that had all but disappeared under the radar even before being played.
Come on Spurs, think big and bring us a hero, a future world star of the new generation who will shine their magic upon White Hart Lane

Yes the previous games have been high scoring action packed affairs but there's only so many times you can play Reading before people find other things to do with their lives. Then there's the fact that it's not readily on TV for most people around the globe. But hey, it's still Spurs and we still want to win. A high profile match at Manure with TV bucks involved does await us with a win so from that perspective it's worthwile.

Reading are struggling to find wins, and their 3:1 loss at Villa in the league marks a continuing slump in their fortunes. Spurs also are finding victories elusive after an intitially zippy start under new the management coaching team, and went down tamely at Stamford Bridge in the Prem after most of their energy and focus was expended in getting the League Cup draw at the Emirates.
